What shape are you in?

People come in all different sizes and shapes. Women especially label their body shape as an hourglass, apple, pear, and banana among others. Some will tell you that round is also a shape.

We often think of shape when referring to your physical condition such as in shape, or out of shape. It can reflect an ultimatum when someone says shape up or ship out.

This edition of our newsletter is for anyone who is a competitive athlete and exercises every day, anyone that exercises three to five times a week, or anyone who plans to exercise some day. Features include tips for getting started, blog updates, Dr. Ray Strand, product of the month, and making a difference.

Tips on getting started

The Reset program from USANA (our product of the month) features an exercise program for beginners led by world renowned athletes Derek Parra & Jennifer Azzi. Exercise burns calories to speed up weight loss, it builds muscle mass, which raises your metabolism, and it helps reduce stress and depression, which can lead to overeating for many people.

Helpful Tips

  • Buy a pedometer to keep track of how many steps you take; gradually work up to 10,000 steps a day
  • Park at the far end of the parking lot. Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Join a walking group or start one yourself
  • Find a time for your workouts that will work with your schedule
  • Turn off the TV
  • Consider hiring a personal trainer
  • Reward yourself for your progress

We often feel that exercise has only become important in our lifetime. Plato and Thomas Jefferson must have been ahead or their times.

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it." Plato

"Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far." Thomas Jefferson
