Thanking & Giving

Does Thanksgiving make you think of Food, Family, Friends, and Football, or does it make you think of the act of giving thanks, or perhaps a prayer showing gratitude? We have two days highlighted and circled on the calendar in the same month to think about our blessings. First we have a day to remind us of some or all of the many people that sacrificed their time, talent, and blood to protect and preserve our freedoms. Veterans Day is the day to remember all the Men and Women that have served our Country both home and abroad. Second, we have Thanksgiving. A day that was once dedicated to prayer and fasting is now about planning, preparing, and consuming a feast.

This edition of our USANA newsletter is filled with gratitude to you for supporting us in our USANA Business, three new USANA Associates that joined our team in October, our Health and Wellness Open House, Dr. Wentz on flu vaccinations, Blog Updates, new product release Probiotics Plus, Children's Hunger Fund & USANA, and even more giving.

October Outdoor Open House on Health & Wellness

On October 24th we invited over two hundred of our neighbors to come by and visit us and learn about making healthier choices in their lives. There were samples of USANA Nutrimeals, Energy Bars, and Rev3. People that brought something to send to the troops were given a free gift as our thanks. In addition to the USANA samples and health information we had Nadine Lederfine a Clinical Nutritionist available to answer questions about health and diet. Many thanks to the neighbors that attended, Nadine, a USANA friend Sylvia Adler, and to the many friends that helped us prepare the house for the event.

Flu Vaccine by Dr. Myron Wentz

In my most recent post I suggested that anyone who had chosen to or was required to receive a vaccination for the H1N1 swine flu should be sure that they are vaccinated with the nasal mist form rather than the injectable form. The nose is the natural route to vaccinate for a respiratory infection and the nasal mist form of the vaccine is free of mercury-containing thimerosal.
I have heard that public health officials in Washington State, as part of their efforts to deal with H1N1 swine flu, have announced that they are suspending their restrictions on how much mercury can be injected into pregnant women or children under three years of age. Washington state law normally limits the amount of mercury that can be in vaccines for pregnant women and children under three. But now they say that for the next six months it’s okay for these patients to be exposed to the higher levels of mercury found in injectable swine flu vaccine. Read the complete Blog. Click here.

Are you being all you can be?

Being grateful for our abundant lives is important regardless of our income or social status. This is the time when our hearts turn to those facing extreme challenges in their lives. Giving thanks does not have to be a date circled on a calendar but rather circled in our heart. Every beat of our healthy heart provides us another opportunity to give thanks. The spirit of giving and receiving is followed by the spirit of thankfulness to those close to our heart and those that are not close but still touch our heart. You can be many things. Here are some ways to consider being as you move forward in your life. Be smart, involved, clean, true, positive, humble, still, prayerful, and always be grateful.

H1N1 Virus( Swine Flu) by Dr. Ray Strand.

This edition of the Healthy for Life Newsletter is going to focus on the H1N1 virus and give you some insight on this pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is projecting that over 40% of the population will be infected by this virus within the next two years. This viral flu is getting a lot of media attention and it creating some panic among everyone. However, even though this virus is going to affect many people, I do not feel that there is any need to be overly anxious and concerned because of all the media hype around this infection. Most of it is speculation and to date this virus does not seem to be as virulent or serious than the common seasonal flu. Also, this virus has been shown to be sensitive to some of our anti-viral medication (Tamiflu and Relenza). However, I do share the concerns of the CDC that this viral infection may become more serious during the winter months, when these infections are normally more serious. Click here to read more.
