Listen to your Heart

Our physical, emotional, spiritual and even mental health depends on a healthy heart. It makes our heart more unique than any other organ in our bodies. The newsletter title for February is once again inspired from a song. We mention another heart related song below.

The shortest month is always full of events. This year is no exception. It is extremely important for your heart health and overall health to remember Valentines Day especially if you didn't forget the Super bowl. You will find out about American Heart Month, USANA updates on our blog, soy vs whey proteins: which is better? Ladd McNamara M.D., a record year for USANA, product of the month, and support for others.

American Heart Month

Heart Disease is still the number one cause for death in America. The American Heart Association recognizes Feb. as National Heart Month. Did you know that the way CPR if performed has been updated and is not performed like it was 15 or 20 years ago? Recently Dave became certified in CPR. Stayin Alive by the Bee Gees is the perfect song for performing CPR. Not only is the title relevant, the beat matches the pace that CPR is performed. It is important to recognize the signs of a heart attack or stroke whether you know CPR or not. Please click on or cut and paste the following link.

Soy vs Whey Protein: Which is better? Ladd McNamara M.D.

Although I get asked, "Which is better, soy or whey protein?" …my question back is, "Better for what?" Each one is an excellent source of protein, and each one has its own benefits. I suggest using at least both sources of protein in order to obtain the benefits each provide. We need to consume protein in order to make and replace protein; and athletes and body-builders are very familiar with whey protein as an excellent source of "bio-available" protein.

Protein is essential for producing antibodies, hormones, new muscle tissue, and the oxygen-carrying protein in blood, hemoglobin. All protein lost or destroyed within the body must be replaced by bio-available protein in order for new tissue to be constructed.

Our bodies are able to manufacture many of the amino acids that are used to produce protein; however, there are nine "essential" amino acids that we cannot manufacture, but must obtain from the protein in our food. Not all protein sources provide these essential amino acids. For example, whey is an excellent source of glutathione and the branched chain essential amino acids L-leucine, L-valine and L-isoleucine.

A Year for the Record Books

The following was included in a recent e-mail and although it was written mainly for USANA Associates, we would like to share this with you.

What a year! In 2008, you helped us set new records and achieve amazing growth.

The launch of Rev3 Energy™ and our innovative Matching Bonus helped create major motivation for an already enthusiastic USANA family.

Just look at some of the unbelievable milestones you helped us achieve last year!

  • An eye-popping $429 million in record sales
  • 7 straight years of sales growth
  • Record sales of $111 million for the 4th quarter
  • A record 198,000 active Associates at year's end—up 12.5% from 2007
  • 269,000 customers at year's end—another record
  • Finally, in the 4th quarter, the second-highest number of Associates joined USANA in our history

And, if you consider the first few weeks of 2009, USANA isn't slowing down anytime soon!

The Philippines launched this week with more than 10,000 pre-enrollments—the highest number of pre-enrollments for a new market opening. The Philippines is a major player in the direct selling industry, and Associate leaders from around the world report that it's going to be another stellar market for USANA.

The USANA family can also celebrate some serious accolades that piled up in recent weeks. In addition to our blog posts:

  • USANA CEO Dave Wentz was named one of America's Powerful CEOs 40 and Under in Forbes.com

Product Spotlight: Coquinone 30

The energy that every cell needs to function is produced through a complex process in the mitochondria, an organelle within the cell often called the cellular powerhouse. Cells store energy in a molecule called adenosine-5-triphosphate or ATP. CoQ10 is an essential part of the electron transport chain used to make ATP which is synthesized and used by every cell in the body. CoQuinone 30 contains advanced levels of CoQ10. Cells with the highest energy demands, such as in the heart, contain the highest levels of CoQ10. CoQ10 has been studied for years in the U.S., Europe, and Japan for its role in producing cellular energy and re-energizing the heart and other muscles.*

  • Promotes a strong and healthy cardiovascular system*
  • Supports energy metabolism in muscles
  • Patent Priority Protected formula
